The wholesaler distribution system in Canada and the U.S. provides excellent
timely access to the more than twenty thousand retailers in Canada
and over two hundred thousand in the U.S. for the "mass market" publications.
The distribution system operates on a fully returnable basis, reported by affidavit.
The retailer returns all unsold product to the wholesaler, who in turn electronically
records the number returned and then destroys the copies. The wholesaler then
sends a weekly affidavit to support his return claim to the national distributor;
the national provides a summary of affidavits to the publisher.
For a new client our personnel conduct a comprehensive distribution analysis
of the existing distribution within the subject category in all major cities.
To ensure maximum distribution impact for our client's publication, we match
dealer coverage of one or more titles with similar readership profiles, carefully
selecting retail outlets based on mutually agreed upon guidelines.
A verification program is implemented at wholesale level to ensure that all
authorized chains are added to the distribution.
A follow-up: detailed distribution is completed after the third issue is off-sale
in order to improve the sell-through efficiency.
Regular wholesaler allotment reviews are made, measuring the individual wholesaler
performance with that of national trends.
